KUALA LUMPUR, June 25 (Bernama) -- Creative industry players can register their works with the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) to prove ownership under the Copyright Voluntary Notification System launched Monday.
Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the system was a registration mechanism to assist the owner, in the event there were legal disputes involving their works.
"Through the system, owners can register with MyIPO and they will be given a confirmation certificate to serve as evidence.
"This is important because in the current situation, it is easy to copy the other person's work," he told reportes at the Hari Himpunan Bintang MyIPO KOSMO! 2012 here.
At the event, several artistes participated in a question-and-answer session with the minister, in connection with the amendment of the Copyright Act last year.
Ismail Sabri also handed over Copyright Voluntary Notification System certificates to several creative industry players and special awards to Radio Televisyen Malaysia, Media Prima Bhd and Astro.
