KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has been removed from the list of 158 countries with inadequate protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights.
The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry enforcement director in Selangor, Othman Nawang, said this was revealed by the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) in its annual Special 301 Report last April.
“In 2001, we were at the top of the list for inadequate protection of intellectual property.
“In 2003, we were in the middle rank, and in April this year, we have been removed from the bad list,” he said recently.
